Frequently Asked Questions about Power for Parkinson’s Texas Two-Step Social on Saturday
Saturday brings one of our favorite annual events: the Texas Two-Step Social. It’s a chance for people with Parkinson’s to enjoy dancing in a genuine Texas honkytonk. The fun takes place at the Sagebrush in South Austin (5500 S. Congress) from 3-6pm. We will have a two-step lesson geared toward people with PD, followed by a performance from honky tonk favorites Croy & the Boys. There will also be delicious tacos from our friends at Eldorado. The best part: everything is free.
So dust off your boots and cowboy hat and come join us for this gathering of the Parkinson’s community on Saturday. In the meantime, check out these frequently asked questions about our unique event.
What if I’m not a good dancer?
Don’t worry about that. Our friend Wyatt from Hill Country two-step is going to lead the group through a two-step dance lesson that anyone can follow.
What if I don’t have a dance partner?
Don’t think for a second you’ll spend the day waiting for someone to ask you to dance. We have a whole bunch of volunteers, staffers, and PFP supporters ready to dance with you.
Can I bring a friend?
You sure can. Bring your spouse, your best friend, your children, or a care partner. The Sagebrush has room for everyone.
Is it free?
Yes, everything about the event is free – except drinks at the bar, but bring some cash if you want to tip the band.
Do you have any parking recommendations?
We sure do. The Sagebrush has parking along the side of the building and another lot along the venue’s back patio. If you are someone with mobility restrictions, pull up out front and look for our PFP parking attendant (his name is Ben) who can park your vehicle for you. If the parking lots are full, you can park along Red Bird Ln.
By the way, the easiest way to pull up to the Sagebrush is to take Blue Bird Ln (off of Stassney) and then turn right on Red Bird Ln. You can also enter off of S. Congress, but there is a median, which makes it only possible to pull in if you are traveling southbound. As always, Google Maps is your friend.
Can you help with transportation?
Yes, we have several shuttles driving to and from the event. If you are interested, please email our Community Program Assistant Claire Eastman [Claire.Eastman@powerforparkinsons.org] to coordinate and reserve a spot. The pickup times and locations are below.
Georgetown Church of Christ (1525 W University Ave, Georgetown, TX 78628) at 2pm
Unity Church of the Hills in North Austin (9905 Anderson Mill Rd, Austin, TX 78750) at 2:30pm
Westminster Presbyterian Church in West Austin (3208 Exposition Blvd, Austin, TX 78703) at 2:30pm
The shuttles will then bring you back to each location after the event.
