Holiday Drive Kick-Off Party & Push-Up Competition
Discover once and for all who can do the most push-ups: Debbie Rosenberg, Lauren Lewis, or Kevin Curtin.
At this fun, virtual party, you will get the chance to get to know your favorite PFP instructors AND cheer on competitors in PFP's first and only push-up championship!
This free event is designed to raise awareness about Power for Parkinson's as we kick off this year's Holiday Drive Fundraiser. As a community-funded organization, funds raised during our Holiday Drive Fundraiser are essential to providing our free services for people with Parkinson's.
Leaves & Layers Art Workshop
Join us on Saturday, October 25 for another fun-filled afternoon of creation and art! We will meet at the Power for Parkinson’s World Headquarters (5555 N Lamar Blvd Ste. C109) at 2 PM for a Fall-inspired, hands-on, collage-making workshop led by students from the Texas MedstART. No artistic experience is required!!
These events are always much loved by those who attend and a wonderful time to connect with other PFP participants in a relaxed environment, so if you haven't yet been to an art workshop we encourage you to join us and try something new. We can’t wait to get creative with you all!
Spicewood Brain & Body Kick-Off PARTY!
Celebrate our first Power for Parkinson’s class in Spicewood at the Lake Travis Community Library West!
Starting October 16th, PFP Instructor Polly Caprio will be leading a Brain & Body class every Thursday at 1 PM at the Lake Travis Community Library West in Spicewood. We hope that this will be an opportunity for more participants in the Spicewood and Marble Falls areas to be able to come workout with us!
Stop by our first class on October 16th at 1 PM for a celebratory first-day exercise class with Polly. PLUS we’ll have pizza after class!

This 5-week workshop, led by our friends at Esquina Tango, is a great way to have fun and learn a new skill, all while improving your Parkinson’s symptoms. No tango experience or talent is needed! This workshop is for all levels!
Friends and family members are welcome to join in on the fun, but we will also have plenty of volunteers who are excited dance with you, so there’s no need to bring a partner.
Meet the instructor!
A social dancer all her life, Mickey Jacobs discovered Esquina Tango in 2007, soaking up tango atmosphere and skills under the wonderful guidance of Monica Caivano and Gustavo Simplis. Having caught the tango ‘bug’ she began studying with local and visiting teachers as well as instructors in Buenos Aires, including Daniela Arcuri, Donato Juarez, Michelle Lamb, Luciana Valles’ Intensivo, and others. She started teaching private and group tango lessons 10 years ago, and is known for teaching community outreach and specialty tango workshops, like this one with Power for Parkinson’s!
South Austin Coffee Meetup
Join us Monday, September 18th after Lauren's WellMed Move & Shout class to sip on your beverage of choice and connect with your fellow South Austin participants! After class, we will walk over to Stouthaus Coffee together as a group. It is conveniently located right next door to WellMed, so we hope many of you will stick around after class to join us for this fun and relaxed gathering!
What’s Causing the Parkinson’s Pandemic?
Join us on Wednesday, September 10th at the PFP World Headquarters as we sit down with leading experts Ray Dorsey and Michael S. Okun for an insightful discussion about the man-made causes of Parkinson’s, and a new path to treat, prevent, and ultimately end PD. Michael S. Okun is the Adelaide Lackner Distinguished Professor of Neurology at the University of Florida and Director of the Norman Fixel Institute for Neurological Diseases. Michael is one of the world’s leading Parkinson’s disease researchers who has advanced surgical treatments. Michael is also the National Medical Advisor of the Parkinson’s Foundation.
Dr. Ray Dorsey is the co-author of The Parkinson's Plan book, a Professor of Neurology at the University of Rochester, and Director of The Center for Brain & Environment at Atria Health and Research Institute. For the past decade, he has pioneered technology to care for individuals with and measure the features of Parkinson's disease.
North Austin Lunch Group
Join us on Wednesday, September 3rd after Nancy’s Dance Class for fantastic company and unlimited breadsticks! Nancy’s Dance Class is held every Wednesday at Unity Church of the Hills from 10:30 AM until 11:30 AM. After class, we’ll head to the Olive Garden down the road! All people with Parkinson’s and their care partners are welcome to join us for class, or for lunch!

PFP's Texas Two-Step Social
Join us Friday, July 11th at 1 PM for the BEST dance party of the year!
Wyatt from Hill Country Two-Step will kick things off at 1 PM with a dance class geared toward people with Parkinson’s, and a bit of a history about Texas two-step. Then, from 2-3 PM, Austin honky-tonk favorites Libby and the Loveless will perform live while we show off the dance moves we learned!
Our friends at Eldorado are providing FREE TACOS! Caretakers, family, and friends are invited, but our volunteers and staff members are also happy to dance with you, so no dance partner is required!

It’s almost time for the premiere Power for Parkinson’s event of the year, our Parkinson’s Awareness Month Celebration! Join us at 9:30 AM for breakfast, followed by a presentation by Eda Baykal-Caglar, PhD, Director of Clinical Research Patient Engagement at the Michael J. Fox Foundation. Eda will be sharing all the latest Parkinson’s research updates and how you can get involved in clinical trials! We’ll end the morning with a fun and effective exercise class taught collaboratively by some of your favorite Powerful Power for Parkinson’s instructors.

Meet our Guest Speaker, Dr. Eda Baykal-Caglar!
As Director of Patient Engagement at The Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF), Eda focuses on advancing the Foundation's patient-centric mission through patient engagement in research to accelerate progress toward a cure for Parkinson's Disease.
She leads a patient engagement team that forges partnerships with patients, research volunteers, industry and academic scientists, and the online smart-match tool Fox Trial Finder to increase the flow of participants into Parkinson's disease clinical trials.
Eda started her career as a biophysicist but driven by her interest in creating an impact through science to advance community health, patient advocacy, and education, she switched careers to work in nonprofits and healthcare. She holds a Ph.D. in Physics and an MS in Biotechnology and Physics Education. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, listening to podcasts, reading, and traveling with her husband and daughter.

The couple has traveled to conferences around the country and around the globe to advocate for research and improve Parkinson’s health outcomes in the Black community.

Powerful People Interview with Sule Tinaz, MD, PhD
Join us on Thursday, April 3rd as we sit down with Dr. Sule Tinaz, MD, PhD, to discuss the impact of high intensity exercise on the brains (and lives!) of people with Parkinson’s. Dr. Tinaz, MD, PhD, is a movement disorder specialist and an assistant professor of neurology at Yale School of Medicine, where she conducts research using advanced neuroimaging technologies.
We are especially excited about one of Tinaz’s recent studies that found that high-intensity exercise may reverse neurodegeneration in Parkinson’s disease. Parkinson's Awareness Month Kick-Off Walk
Join the Power for Parkinson’s community as we march into Parkinson’s Awareness Month!
We will meet at Browning Hangar by Mueller Lake Park at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, April 2nd and stroll through the park as a group. We plan to stroll about half a mile around the lake to Lick Honest Ice Creams, where we will enjoy an ice-cream pit stop before continuing on! We will have several distance options, ranging from .6 miles to 2 miles. All paces are welcome!
This walk is free and open to the public. We encourage you to bring your friends and family along! After the walk, we will meet by Browning Hanger and enjoy lunch together, if you would like to hang around! There is plenty of parking at the Browning Hanger, and restrooms available along the route. The trail is flat and mostly paved, with some gravel portions.
Merging with the Masters
Join PFP and our friends from TX MedstART NEXT Sunday, February 23, to explore and recreate the work of your favorite artists through history! During this unique art event, individuals will use watercolors to recreate the artwork of artistic masters such as Van Gogh, O'Keefe and many others. This creative experience will foster self-expression and provide a wonderful avenue for stress relief.
This event is FREE for all people with Parkinson’s and their care partners and families. No art experience is required, and all materials will be provided!
Open House!
Stop by the Power for Parkinson's World Headquarters in Central Austin on Tuesday, November 19th, between 3 and 5 PM to meet the Power for Parkinson's team and socialize with attendees from the PMD Alliance's ALL-IN! Summit, and learn anything and everything you'd like to know about Parkinson's symptom-focused exercise. This free event is a great starting point for out-of-towners attending the ALL-IN! Summit, as well as a wonderful place for members of our local community to learn more about our services. We will be providing light refreshments.

Stop by Unity Church of the Hills on Monday, October 21st at 12 PM, right after Nancy’s famous Strength & Balance class to enjoy lemonade and light refreshments, and hear from neurologist Katie Hendley M.D. Dr. Hendley will be discussing a proven treatment that reduces dyskinesia and off times!

Socialize, exercise, and support Power for Parkinson’s at our Ride the Waves Celebration on Thursday, August 15th, from 11 AM until 1:30 PM at Westminster Presbyterian Church on 3208 Exposition Blvd. This celebration is absolutely free to attend and will feature fun and games, a delicious lunch, ice cream, and the chance to support Power for Parkinson’s during our Ride the Waves Fundraiser.

Art Therapy for PD Sculpture Workshop
Join us on Saturday morning, April 27th from 10:30 AM until 12 PM at the PFP World Headquarters to find peace and express yourself through art! Students from UT’s TX MedStART program will be leading this Art Therapy Workshop. During the workshop, you will learn how to express yourself and relieve anxiety through sculpting!
This workshop is free and open to all people with PD and their care partners, families and loved ones. All materials will be provided. If you have any questions about this workshop, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

We will meet at Deep Eddy Pool on 401 Deep Eddy Ave and then mosey down the trail from there! All are welcome! We will have multiple pace groups.
We plan to walk for 40 minutes (20 minutes out and 20 minutes back), but you are welcome to walk as fast and far as you feel comfortable. Volunteers and PFP staff members will be available to accompany you and keep the conversation going as we walk! After our walk, we will meet across the street at Juiceland to cool off.
World Parkinson's Day Social
Join us on Thursday, April 11th at 11 AM at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Central Austin to celebrate World Parkinson’s Day with the Power for Parkinson’s community! This celebration will feature a speech by the amazing Amparo Garcia Crow, followed by an exercise medley led by ALL of our Power for Parkinson’s Instructors, and lunch.

Power for Parkinson's Virtual Dog & Pony Show
Come one, come all, to the Power for Parkinson’s virtual Dog & Pony show! On Friday, April 5th, at 1 PM Central Time (11 AM PT/12 PM MT/2 PM ET) the global PFP community will gather on Zoom to get to know each other a little bit better. We exercise together weekly, sometimes daily, on YouTube, but rarely get the chance to meet face to face; let’s change that!
During the PFP Dog & Pony show, everyone will get the chance to share something that brings them joy with the group: it could be a pet, a book, a TV show, a type of food or even a family member or good friend! We want to hear about your life and the things that matter to you.

Get Up From the Floor With Ease
Join us Thursday, February 29th, from 2:15 - 3:15 PM at WellMed Senior Activity Center for our latest "Get Up From the Floor With Ease" workshop. In this workshop, you will learn to get down and up from the floor with the support and guidance of our two facilitators, Nadine Eram and Eve Chenu. As a group, we will practice various techniques, tips, and tricks to get up from the floor. Whether you are concerned about recovering from a fall or want to increase your strength and agility, this empowering workshop is for you! Spaces are limited, so RSVP now.
