Power for Parkinson's offers multiple free exercise, dance, and singing classes in the Austin, Texas area. We also offer a free home exercise video library on YouTube for those that are homebound or outside of our local area. Our program is at the forefront of a new movement in managing Parkinson's disease, and we hope you will join us!
All classes are completely free and do not require pre-registration.*
Care partners are always welcome and encouraged to participate in all classes.*
All classes are suitable for all fitness and mobility levels and exercises can be modified to seated or standing.*
*Exception: please see Young Onset Circuit Training class below. This class is free, but is intended only for people with Young Onset Parkinson's Disease (not care partners). This class does require pre-registration and a relatively high mobility level.
MOVE & SHOUT
This dynamic, high energy class integrates cognitive challenges with exercise and vocal components.
STRENGTH & BALANCE
This class uses props like balls, weights, and resistance bands, to improve strength, mobility, gait, and balance.
BRAIN & BODY
This class is designed to stimulate the brain/body connection and give you a full workout head (or brain) to toe.
RHYTHM & MOVES
Not exactly a dance class, not exactly a fitness class – the best of both worlds combined using music and movement.
POWERFUL PIPES SINGING GROUP
This all-levels singing group aims to improve and sustain vocal power through the joy of singing. No experience necessary.
Non-singers welcome, and performing is not required!
YOUNG ONSET CIRCUIT TRAINING
Our YOPD class is a supportive, encouraging, high-intensity circuit training class designed for those ages 60 and under with a higher mobility level. Unlike our other classes, space is limited and pre-registration is required for this class.
HOME VIDEO SERIES
Reaching Beyond The Austin Community
We're aware of the impact our classes have on our participants and the community at large. While we'd love to set up Power for Parkinson's classes in many cities other than Austin, we're limited by the resources that we currently have at our disposal. Therefore, we started our own Home Video Series! These exercise videos are posted on our YouTube channel so that the Parkinson's community can stay engaged and fit for free, no matter the distance.
Note: The classes offered on the DVD are two of the same videos that are available for free on YouTube. We have simply made them available in an alternate format to benefit those for whom YouTube is not an option.
