Ride the Waves

When our class participants share their perspectives on Parkinson’s and community, it deepens the meaning of our work. Craig Snook is a longtime PFP participant who primarily attends the Standing Warriors class on Fridays. He sent us this beautiful essay inspired by our Ride the Waves summer celebration and fundraiser.

Last week as I was standing at the ocean’s edge, I was reminded that waves never truly end. One wave gives rise to another, each carrying energy farther than we can see. Our goal is not simply to make a splash during our lifetime but to leave the ocean stronger for others that follow.

Generations pass forward their values, resilience, and hope. We also pass forward the challenges we face and the strength we discover together. The question is not whether we will create waves – but what kind of waves will we leave behind?

For families living with Parkinson’s disease, this question carries special meaning. Parkinson’s often arrives like an unpredictable storm, changing lives, relationships, and dreams. While we cannot stop the waves, we can learn to ride them – with courage, determination, and the support of others.

That is the spirit of Power for Parkinson's and Ride the Waves.

This month we celebrate the resilience of people living with Parkinson’s, the dedication of caregivers, and the communities that choose hope over isolation.

Power for Parkinson’s, allows us to witness these waves every day:

  • Someone regains confidence after months of isolation.

  • A caregiver smiles because their loved one is laughing again.

  • New friendships are formed.

  • Hope is restored.

  • Lives are transformed through movement, connection, and community.

The beauty of a wave is not that it lasts forever – it is that it keeps moving.

Hope moves.

Kindness moves.

Generosity moves.

Every act of support today reaches farther than we may ever know, lifting individuals, strengthening families, and inspiring future generations.

As we support Ride the Waves, let’s:

  • Ride for someone we love.

  • Ride in honor of someone who inspires you.

  • Ride because no one should face Parkinson’s alone.

Let’s create waves of hope, courage, and connection – one ride, one family, and one life at a time.

We inherit the waves of those before us, but we choose the waves we send toward the future. Every act of love, courage, and kindness becomes part of the tide that lifts the next generation.

Ride the Waves. Join in. Change Lives.
